Letter from Alison Melnik, Student and Emerging Professionals Committee

December 5, 2005

Dear Students,

As you may know, the College Art Association's 94th Annual Conference is taking place in Boston from February 22 to 25, 2006. On behalf of the Student and Emerging Professionals Committee, I would like to extend an invitation to you and your colleagues to become CAA members and to attend this year's conference. With conference activities right here in our own backyard, there is no better time to experience CAA.

The conference program includes more than 180 sessions and panels in art history, contemporary issues, and studio art, where attendees can learn about the latest scholarly research, follow innovative trends in art theory and practice, and participate in stimulating discussions on the visual arts. Additionally, the Career Fair features job-placement services as well as career-development workshops and mentoring sessions. CAA is also pleased to offer the Student Lounge, a multipurpose facility open to all attendees needing a place to relax or to meet and network with colleagues and members of the Student and Emerging Professionals Committee. Students are especially encouraged to stop by the lounge to meet representatives of the committee and hear established art professionals discuss their career paths. Additionally, door prizes will be given away daily, including two CAA student memberships!

This is a wonderful opportunity for students to experience all that CAA has to offer. Attached is an information sheet on CAA as well as a copy of the Student Guide to the Boston Conference. I ask that you consider becoming a CAA member and to check out the conference this winter. As a CAA member, you will join more than 13,500 arts professionals in promoting, facilitating, and honoring a commitment to highest professional and ethical standards of scholarship, creativity, connoisseurship, criticism, and teaching.

I encourage you to check out www.collegeart.org for more information about CAA and the upcoming conference. Additionally, I am happy to speak with you about CAA membership, the Student and Emerging Professionals Committee, or the Annual Conference. If you have questions, please feel free to contact me at student@collegeart.org.

I hope to see you in February!

Kindly,

Alison Melnik
